Lapis is a relatively rare, semi-precious stone first found over 6,000 years ago in Afghanistan. Deposits of the lapis rock can be found in other parts of the world, including the United States, but is of a lower quality than the Afghanistan product.
Because of its shiny polish finish, the lapis is used not only in jewelry, but
in carvings, boxes, mosaics, ornaments and vases as well. As one would suspect,
these large, blue stones are intriguing set into rings.
